Seriously- isn't there some kind of law that says I don't have to purchase something I don't want, and I have a right to my privacy? If I don't want an asshole knowing what I'm doing, then it's none of his business.

According to the Mail article, Government Motors has been putting these in cars for quite a few years- if yours has an airbag, it may have a black box- and of course, there's OnStar. How convenient for us to be able to call 9-1-1 without moving a muscle after an accident.
Isn't it convenient for the Gestapo that so many 'Americans' willingly accept convenience in their lives?
But, for sake of convenience, lemme carry this thought a bit...

Funny thing about this article: it's from the Mail OnLine, from the U.K. I haven;t seen anything of this on any of the American rags I read on line (I don't read paper rags- too spendy just to read lies).

ReplyDeleteSel- I'm not too sure how mandatory insurance got enacted, but I imagine you're right about the boxes: "Either get the box put in or we don't issue a license," type of thing. I guess I'll just have to figure out a way to create plates without going to jail to do it. OOPS... strike that!
May'b- that's a helluva list! WOW! 11 pages- well, the last page is kind'a bare, still... notice how many Gov Motors is there, and how far back? Though Ford did put it on a lot of their vehicles, too, less than one page.
Luckily, all my vehicles are so ancient... I can see the state telling me to turn them in on a Cash For Clunkers deal. Won't matter to them they run so well and I happen to like them.

Further research reveals (from several GM techs, the manufacturer's website, and a Delphi engineer) that the damned thing is virtually impossible to remove or bypass, as it is tied in to engine control system. I feel the expletives welling up in my throat, so please excuse me while I scare the neighbors...
